ACCREDITATION
AND RANKING
The Australian education system
is highly regarded internationally. University
entry is extremely competitive and academic
standards are high. The University is on
the Australian Commonwealth Register of
Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students
(CRICOS) and must comply with a National
Code of Practice. The Code sets strict requirements
for all CRICOS-registered providers, programs
and courses.
Universities are accredited with, and closely
monitored by, the Australian Government,
which has a strong commitment to the provision
of quality higher education.
All Australian Universities are evaluated
by the Australian Universities Quality Agency
(AUQA). AUQA reports directly to the Commonwealth
Government on its findings.
In
AUQA’s 2002 Report on USQ the following
was stated:
• Internationally, USQ
is a leader in developing innovative program
delivery while at the same time maintaining
a strong commitment to educational quality...
The stance USQ has taken in not compromising
standards while developing new markets bodes
well for the future
• Teaching and learning is the area
where USQ is making a strong contribution...
and where it is at the forefront in developing
and applying new technologies
• USQ is a... University that is making
significant contributions in terms of the
student’s and communities
it serves, as well as to the future direction
of Australian higher education
• The staff are strongly committed
to students and to the University’s
strategic directions.
As a member of the Association
of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) and UNESCO’s
International Association of Universities
(lAU), USQ degrees are recognised around
the world. ACU membership comprises more
than 480 universities drawn from Commonwealth
countries. These institutions come together
under the umbrella of the ACU to build on
their historical links, shared traditions
and common purposes in order to further
international understanding and collaboration.
There is no official ranking of Australian
universities; however, independent surveys
show that USQ students have a very high
overall satisfaction rate with the standard
of programs and support offered to them.
